Kazakhstan, Türkiye to halve cargo transit time through new agreement
The transit time of cargoes between Kazakhstan and Türkiye through Azerbaijan will be halved.
The Kazakh parliament ratified an intergovernmental agreement with Türkiye on international cargo transportation signed on May 10, 2022, Caliber.Az reports citing Kazakh media.
Ratification of the agreement will reduce the time of cargo passage to 5 days. In 2022, the passage of this route took 13-15 days.
The agreement aims to increase cargo traffic along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TCIR), which uses the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, Caspian Sea ports and the Western Europe-Western China international transit corridor. This will also increase trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Türkiye.
As a reminder, the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor (the "Middle Corridor") runs from the China-Kazakhstan border through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan and Georgia to Europe.
