Kremlin: Quiet diplomacy defines Russia-US contacts
Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov has said that diplomacy between Russia and the United States is typically conducted behind the scenes, commenting on reports that Moscow and Washington are engaged in “quiet diplomacy.”
“Diplomacy is usually always conducted quietly. If something is being discussed loudly, then it is no longer diplomacy; it is probably a public statement,” Ushakov said in an interview with Pavel Zarubin of the Vesti program, an excerpt of which was published on Telegram.
Ushakov was responding to a question about reports in US media suggesting that Moscow and Washington have been conducting discreet diplomatic contacts.
He also said the Kremlin currently has no concrete information regarding a possible visit to Russia by US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
“You are asking so many questions about this trip as if we were talking about relatives coming to Moscow from somewhere like Kaluga. You understand, this is a serious international meeting; it requires preparation and coordination. So when it takes shape, we will announce it,” Ushakov said.
“For now, nothing,” he added.
