Russia fines Google $45,000 as previous fines remain unpaid

18 August 2026 15:42

A court in Russia has said it fined Google 3.8 million rubles (around $45,000) for failing to remove prohibited content, while the US company continues to leave previous fines unpaid.

Moscow’s Tagansky District Court confirmed that it found Google LLC guilty of an administrative offence under Part 2 of Article 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation (violation of the procedure for restricting access to information that is subject to restriction under Russian law) and imposed a fine of 3.8 million rubles (around $45,000) on the company, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

As previously reported, Google’s outstanding debt to the Russian Federation over administrative offences amounts to two undecillion rubles (a figure with 36 zeros) and continues to grow each day due to overdue payments.

The company can return to the Russian market only after complying with the court ruling.

The messenger’s outstanding debt from fines that were not paid within the prescribed period for violating Russian laws has reached nearly 53.7 million rubles (around $631,000).
