Kazakhstan yet to set deadline for AZAL crash probe
The commission investigating the crash of an Embraer 190 aircraft operated by AZAL in Aktau has not yet determined a final timeline for completing its work, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport said.
“The final deadline for the investigation has not been determined; however, the commission will make every effort to complete it as soon as possible,” the ministry’s press service told RIA Novosti.
A day earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk stated that Russia and Azerbaijan had agreed on further steps to resolve all issues related to the disaster.
The crash occurred on 25 December 2024 when an Embraer 190 aircraft operated by AZAL, flying flight J2-8243 from Baku to Grozny, experienced external physical and technical interference in Russian airspace. The plane lost control and was forced to make an emergency landing in Aktau, Kazakhstan.
There were 67 people on board, including five crew members. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of 38 passengers, while 29 survived.
