Khankendi Stadium to be managed by Azerbaijan’s sport ministry
Khankendi City Stadium has been transferred to the balance of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan.
The ministry recently invited representatives of the Professional Football League (PFL) and Azerbaijan Football Federation Association (AFFA) to familiarise themselves with the arena to hold matches there, Azerisport.com reports.
Despite domestic media claims that the arena will host the match of the 18th round of the Premier League between Zire and Qarabagh, the final decision has not been made yet. The issue of holding any match will be decided after coordination with the relevant bodies. Khankendi may host both the Premier League and the Cup, or even the Cup final. The first game may be an international friendly.
The stadium itself has a seating capacity of 15,000 people. The stands, which were previously decorated with symbols of the separatist entity, have already been removed, and new seats will soon be installed. As for the artificial turf surface, it will remain for some time.
