Kremlin backs Trump’s call for global ban on biological weapons
The Kremlin has expressed strong support for former US President Donald Trump's recent proposal advocating for a global renunciation of biological weapons, calling the initiative “brilliant” and reaffirming Russia’s readiness to engage in multilateral disarmament efforts.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov underscored Moscow’s openness to constructive dialogue on the elimination of biological weapons, framing the proposal as both timely and necessary in the current geopolitical climate, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“Undoubtedly, this is a very important call, and such an initiative is to be welcomed. Naturally, the Russian side is ready to participate in this process of a general renunciation of biological weapons,” Peskov stated.
US President Donald Trump recently called for the international community to enact a complete ban on the development of biological weapons, warning that their potential consequences are “incredibly dangerous.”
In a related historical context, digital copies of newly declassified documents from the archives of the Federal Security Service (FSB) in Russia’s Omsk region were released online, shedding light on Japan’s wartime plans to deploy bacteriological weapons against Soviet, Chinese, and American forces. The FSB’s Public Relations Center made the documents public in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s decisive victory over Japan’s Kwantung Army during the Manchurian Strategic Offensive Operation, conducted between August 9 and 19, 1945.
