Kremlin lashes out at 'off-putting' episodes of Paris Olympics opening ceremony

Some episodes of the Olympics opening ceremony in Paris were off-putting, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov believes.

"I personally watched most of the material myself. Indeed, there were some absolutely disgusting moments," Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

Peskov noted that the ceremony wouldn’t have proceeded without approval from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

"We have long known the oddities of the French Republic. But that it was approved by the IOC for such a broad international audience is hard to believe. But, unfortunately, it is a reality," he remarked.

He expressed concern for the future of the IOC, saying, "They went down a slippery slope."

The opening ceremony, held on July 26, featured a provocative parody of Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper".

Additionally, the event experienced several mishaps: the Olympic flag near the Eiffel Tower was hung upside down, athletes from South Korea were mistakenly introduced as athletes from North Korea, and poor visibility caused some spectators to leave the stands before the performance began. Those who stayed were caught in a downpour as they watched the ceremony.
