Kremlin: Russia committed to reducing nuclear threat
The Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reiterated that Russia remains dedicated to reducing the global nuclear threat, emphasizing the country's commitment to responsible policies in nuclear matters.
In comments to reporters, Peskov stressed that Russia has consistently adopted a cautious and responsible approach to nuclear issues, working to prevent the escalation of interstate tensions, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
"Russia has always taken a responsible stance and made the necessary efforts to reduce the nuclear threat and prevent aggravation of interstate relations," Peskov stated.
Notably, President Vladimir Putin has officially signed a decree outlining the key principles of Russia’s updated nuclear deterrence strategy.
The new doctrine marks a significant revision of Moscow’s nuclear policy.
The decree was first proposed by Putin on September 25, and the approved version expands the range of states and military alliances subject to nuclear deterrence. The revised doctrine also alters the criteria under which Russia would consider an attack to have occurred, providing the Kremlin with broader justification for a potential nuclear response.
