Kremlin urges de-escalation amid “galloping” Middle East conflict

17 June 2025 15:43

The Kremlin has expressed deep concern over the rapidly deteriorating situation in the Middle East, warning of a dangerously unpredictable escalation between Israel and Iran.

Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, described the trajectory of the conflict as one of “galloping escalation,” emphasizing the unprecedented level of uncertainty surrounding its development, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.

"The situation is alarming," Peskov told reporters. "We have seen and heard these statements—such as the call by US President Donald Trump for residents of Tehran to evacuate, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s remarks implying the need to physically eliminate Iran's Supreme Leader. The level of unpredictability is absolute."

In light of these developments, the Kremlin called on both Israel and Iran to exercise maximum restraint and work toward de-escalation. Peskov stressed the need for a shift toward a peaceful resolution through political and diplomatic channels.

“We urge the parties to demonstrate maximum restraint in order to eventually transition, in one way or another, to a peaceful, political, and diplomatic track for settlement,” he stated.

Peskov also noted that Russia’s diplomatic mission in Tehran is actively involved in efforts to repatriate Russian citizens currently in Iran, underscoring Moscow’s concern for the safety of its nationals amid the volatile security environment.
