Lebanon, Syria address border clashes, seek to strengthen bilateral ties
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa engaged in discussions regarding recent clashes along the Lebanese-Syrian border.
The talks focused on bilateral relations and pressing issues affecting both nations, Caliber.Az reports citing Turkish media.
The conversation also touched on the recent skirmishes between the Lebanese military and armed individuals on the border in eastern Lebanon. In response, Sharaa assured Mikati that Syrian authorities were taking all necessary measures to restore calm and prevent further incidents along the border.
Sharaa extended an invitation to Mikati to visit Syria in order to address mutual concerns and strengthen the ties between the two countries.
The clashes, which occurred on the Syrian side of the border, resulted in five Lebanese soldiers being injured. Lebanese media reports indicate that the altercation involved Syrian smugglers and Lebanese soldiers.
Lebanese Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi clarified that the armed groups involved in the skirmishes had no affiliation with the Syrian government, emphasizing the complex dynamics at play in the region.
