Look into the future: Aghdam will be reborn like Hiroshima CBC Channel draws historical parallels with Japan / VIDEO
The CBC TV channel aired the documentary film "Aghdam - Hiroshima: Revival for Peace".
The author of the film, TV presenter Anastasia Lavrina draws a parallel between the Japanese city of Hiroshima, wiped off the face of the earth by an atomic bomb dropped by the Americans in 1945, and the Azerbaijani city of Aghdam, destroyed during the 28-year Armenian occupation. The film was shot in Hiroshima, Tokyo and Aghdam.
It should be remembered that Aghdam was named "Hiroshima of the Caucasus" because of the unimaginable scale of destruction during the Armenian occupation. The film tells about the active construction in Aghdam, the rebirth of the city as Hiroshima once was, the restoration of infrastructure, the importance of preserving history and the return of residents to their native lands.
"It was important for me and my team to show in the film Japan's experience of reviving Hiroshima as a symbol of peace in the region. For Azerbaijan, this experience is undoubtedly very important, because we still have a long way to go in demining the territories and restoring Aghdam. By practically building the city anew, the leadership of our country seeks to turn the page of war, but at the same time, as in Japanese Hiroshima, we will forever preserve the memory of what happened to the once flourishing city of Karabakh during the years of Armenian occupation," Anastasia Lavrina said.
In the film, the residents of Hiroshima express hope for the establishment of humanitarian ties with Aghdam.
