Macron fuelling regional tensions through arms supplies to Armenia Statement by Western Azerbaijan Community

26 September 2024 11:08

The Western Azerbaijan Community has firmly rejected the "absolutely false and unacceptable" assertions made by French President Emmanuel Macron during his address at the UN General Assembly on September 25, in which he claimed that Azerbaijan is allegedly pressuring Armenia.

According to a statement from the community, Macron has conveniently ignored the expulsion of one million Azerbaijanis from Armenia and the formerly occupied regions of Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports.

"The French leader, who supported Armenia's thirty-year occupation of Azerbaijani lands, turned a blind eye to the expulsion of a million Azerbaijanis from Armenia and formerly occupied territories of Azerbaijan, once opposed the steps taken for the peaceful resolution of the conflict, now speaks hypocritically about peace and international law," the community said.

The statement also pointed out that Macron's hypocrisy demonstrated at the current session of the UN General Assembly comes after France attempted to block the adoption of a resolution aimed at resolving the conflict in 2008.

The community further criticized France for its imperialistic agenda, arguing that the country is dissatisfied with Azerbaijan's resolution of the conflict and the restoration of its sovereignty and territorial integrity in line with international law. They contend that this situation limits France's capacity to exert influence in the region. The statement alleges that Macron is supplying Armenia with substantial amounts of weaponry to rekindle hostilities and create the illusion of heightened tensions, thereby tarnishing Azerbaijan's reputation.

"We demand that France abandon these destructive intentions, cease its arms supplies to Armenia, refrain from interfering in regional affairs, and support peace initiatives," the community emphasized.

Additionally, they urged Armenia not to be used as a pawn in France's political games, calling for an end to its extensive arms program and a focus on achieving peace with Azerbaijan, while also facilitating the return of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia.
