Mass grave in Khojaly reveals remains of 14 Azerbaijanis tortured by Armenians Sombre realities of the past
The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has recently disclosed a mass grave in the centre of the liberated city of Khojaly, shedding light on the sombre realities of the past.
During the investigation into the discovery of a mass grave in the city’s centre (near the former carpet factory), it was established that the discovered remains belonged to at least 14 people, Caliber.Az informs, citing the press service of the prosecutor office.
The supervisory authority noted that the Department of Forensic Science and Information Technology continues to investigate the discovery of human remains, mass buried in the centre of the city of Khojaly liberated from occupation (not far from the former carpet factory), as part of large-scale restoration and construction work.
As a result of the inspection and research carried out in the indicated area, the remains of another person were discovered. Thus, it was established that the human remains in the mass grave belong to at least 14 individuals who were subjected to various forms of torture, ill-treatment and physical violence, and their hands were tied with rope. In addition, it was established that they were not buried individually and in accordance with the requirements of their religion.
Currently, in order to fully identify the human remains buried on the territory, employees of the General Prosecutor's Office with the participation of representatives of the State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Citizens, the legal entity of public law "Union of Forensic Medicine and Pathological Anatomy" of the Ministry of Health, The National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and the representative office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Azerbaijan inspected the site. The discovered bone fragments were seized for the purpose of examination and laboratory research, and other necessary procedural actions were also carried out.
