Media: Armenia, Pakistan move toward opening embassy in Yerevan
Armenia and Pakistan are taking concrete steps toward opening a Pakistani embassy in Yerevan, according to information obtained by Armenian News.
A diplomatic source told Armenian News that the embassy is expected to be established next year.
In an official response, Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the two governments are moving forward following the recent establishment of diplomatic relations.
“By signing a joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Pakistan, the governments of Armenia and Pakistan have agreed to exchange representatives and provide each other with necessary support for the purpose of bringing diplomatic relations to life on the basis of reciprocity in accordance with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and customary international practice. In this context, the public will be duly informed about further developments,” the ministry stated.
Armenia and Pakistan formally established diplomatic ties on August 31. On the same day, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar met in Tianjin, China, where they signed the joint communiqué.
