Media: Armenian ambassador in Russia sues Armenia’s Interior Ministry
Armenia’s ambassador to Russia, Gurgen Arsenyan, has filed a lawsuit against the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs over the authorities’ intention to seize his personal firearms.
The diplomat approached the Administrative Court seeking an order to prevent the ministry from confiscating or disabling his three handguns: a Walther, a Beretta-92, and a Glock 42, Caliber.Az reports, citing the newspaper Zhoghovurd.
According to the report, the ministry has recently been reviewing firearm permits issued over the years, including to high-ranking officials. In several cases, this review has led to the confiscation or deactivation of weapons.
Gurgen Arsenyan, a long‑time Armenian politician and former member of parliament from the ruling Civil Contract faction, was appointed as Armenia’s ambassador to the Russian Federation by a presidential decree signed on August 15, 2024.
He replaced Vagharshak Harutyunyan in the role after resigning his parliamentary seat to take up the diplomatic post.
Arsenyan’s appointment was made on the recommendation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and formalised by President Vahagn Khachaturyan, reflecting a direct political transition from domestic politics to diplomatic service.
