Media: Armenian soldier shoots dead officer on combat duty

On January 9 around 06:20, the body of serviceman Karen Araikovich Karapetyan was found with a gunshot wound at the combat position of the N military unit of the Armenian Defence Ministry.

The ministry said an investigation is underway to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.

Armenian media noted that according to Hraparak, at dawn on January 9, an enlisted serviceman at one of the posts of Vardenis inflicted a fatal gunshot wound from his assault rifle on an officer serving at the same post.

"According to the source, the incident took place while the corps commander Garegin Poghosyan was sleeping peacefully at home, and the murder would not have happened if the corps commander had been in proper relations with his subordinates and tried to settle disputes that arose between officers and soldiers," the website wrote.
