Media: IRGC commander unharmed after Bandar Abbas explosion
An explosion that occurred on January 31 in the southern Iranian city of Bandar Abbas was not an assassination attempt on Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy.
The news agency Mehr clarified that rumours circulating on social media suggesting that Tangsiri had been targeted were false. “Our informed source has denied the rumours about Tangsiri being killed in the Bandar Abbas incident,” the agency stated.
The blast struck an eight-storey building on Moallem Boulevard in Bandar Abbas, reportedly destroying two floors, several vehicles, and nearby shops. Rescue and firefighting teams were dispatched to the scene, according to state television. The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined.
The explosion comes amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington, following the deployment of a U.S. aircraft carrier group to the region. On Wednesday, January 28, U.S. President Donald Trump issued renewed warnings to Iran, urging Tehran to reach an agreement regarding its nuclear program.
