Media reports possible resignation of Armenian Deputy PM

05 November 2022 11:48

Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Hambartsum Matevosyan, who recently turned out to be an outsider in the elections to the board of the ruling party "Civil Contract", may soon leave the post.

Caliber.Az cites the Yerevan-based paper Zhoghovurd, saying that the scandal around the elections in the lobby of the authorities does not subside.

A new board was elected at the meeting of the Civil Contract congress on October 30, which, was headed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan instead of Defense Minister Suren Papikyan. Matevosyan was also elected to the ruling party body, but two days later he left the board after a recount.

According to the paper, even before the vote in the Civil Contract, there was an internal instruction - at all costs not to allow the election of ex-Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan to the board and to do everything so that Matevosyan enters it. However, as it turns out now, the Deputy Prime Minister's "lobbyists" worked very badly. As a result, Torosyan ended up on the board, but Matevosyan did not, after the recount of votes.

In fact, as the newspaper notes, clouds are gathering over the head of the 30-year-old deputy chairman of the government, and the government intends to "say goodbye" to him. It is possible that in the near future he will be forced to sign a letter of resignation. The newspaper tried to clarify the information in the office of the Deputy Prime Minister, but they did not answer the calls.
