Medvedev accuses Western states of seeking Russia’s partition
Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev argued that Western policies toward Russia are driven by what he described as a “deep-seated hatred” of the country, saying Russians should therefore remain distrustful of Western elites.
Medvedev cited remarks by a Polish politician who, according to him, spoke about the “unusual relationship” between European Union countries and Ukraine.
“There is only one reason: the deep-seated hatred of Western elites toward Russia and toward all of us,” Medvedev said. “Why? Hatred is sometimes irrational.”
He also claimed that another reason behind such hostility is an alleged desire among other countries “to divide Russia into parts and gain access to our wealth.”
“We need to cultivate one quality in ourselves, without hysteria or self-flagellation: we must not trust Western elites in anything,” Medvedev said. “They should never be admired; they should be treated with cold contempt.”
