Mine Action Agency: Azerbaijan to create amputee football teams

Chairman of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) Vugar Suleymanov has said that football teams consisting of mine-injured amputees will be created in Azerbaijan.

“ANAMA and AFFA [Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan] plan to take this step in support of the social rehabilitation of amputees,” Suleymanov told reporters during the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with AFFA, Report informs.

“The main goal of signing the MoU is to raise awareness and use the potential of football in mine clearance. I hope that the cooperation between ANAMA and AFFA will be fruitful,” ANAMA chairman added.

He added that participation in international tournaments is envisaged in the future.

“We have big plans for the future. Together with AFFA we will take certain steps. We hope that all these plans will come true. We expect the international games to be organised and the Azerbaijani national amputee football team to participate in international tournaments in the future,” Suleymanov said.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Suleymanov and AFFA Secretary General Sarkhan Hajiyev at the event organised at the Baku Olympic Stadium.
