The President of the Republic of North Macedonia has toured the exhibition of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum on March 12 in the course of her official visit to Azerbaijan.
President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova was welcomed by the museum's director, Amina Malikova, who provided the distinguished guest with information about the ancient art of Azerbaijani carpet weaving, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
The North Macedonian head of state was shown the museum's collection, which reflects the main artistic directions of Azerbaijani carpet making.
In the course of the private tour, special attention was paid to the museum’s "golden fund," which includes examples of pile and flat-woven carpets from the cities of Guba, Baku, Shirvan, Ganja, Gazakh, Karabakh, and Tabriz. This exhibition also features samples of decorative and applied arts.
Director Malikova further informed the distinguished guest that Azerbaijani carpet weaving was included in UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2010 thanks to the significant efforts of Azerbaijan’s First Lady, the President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Mehriban Aliyeva.
President Siljanovska-Davkova took part in a hands-on weaving session at the museum and was later introduced to the ancient art of crafting a “kelaghayi”, a traditional colourful headscarf woven from pure silk, depicting national patterns.
At the end of her visit, the president of North Macedonia left a note in the museum’s guestbook.
As a gift, Siljanovska-Davkova was presented with a jubilee album dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum.
