Nigerian journalist commends Azerbaijan's environmental efforts Ahead of COP29
Garba Shehu, former spokesperson to the president of Nigeria, head of Nigeria's Peoples Daily, expressed his admiration for Azerbaijan's commitment to environmental issues during his recent visit to Baku in preparation for the COP29 conference.
In an interview with journalists, Shehu shared his experiences exploring the rich culture and historic sites of Azerbaijan, particularly Icharishahar, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
He acknowledged the significant impact of climate change on ecosystems globally, emphasizing the need for developed nations to take responsibility for environmental damage.
"While we in Africa will outline our national commitments, it is essential that developed countries fulfill their obligations as they are primarily responsible for the harm done to the environment," Shehu stated.
Highlighting Azerbaijan's proactive approach to environmental sustainability, he noted the country's longstanding investments in green spaces and parks, which are evident throughout Baku.
"From what I observed, it is clear that the Azerbaijani people and government are deeply committed to environmental issues, well beyond the upcoming COP29 conference. I wish Azerbaijan great success in hosting this important event," he added.
