Official: Azerbaijan to lead high-tech space projects in coming years

04 March 2025 17:41

Azerbaijan is set to expand its presence in the global space sector, with engineers developing advanced satellites in the coming years, according to Sameddin Asadov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport.

Speaking at an event marking World Engineering Day, Asadov highlighted the country's growing role in space-related initiatives, noting that Azerbaijan would soon begin implementing several new space projects, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

"As part of extensive efforts to train engineers in the space field, Azerbaijan has gained substantial influence not just regionally, but on the global stage," Asadov said.

"Our involvement in numerous international space projects and programmes continues to grow, and we will host large-scale events this year as part of our commitment to advancing space technology."

To recall, the Chairman of the Board of "Azercosmos," Sameddin Asadov, has been appointed as the new Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan.

Sameddin Asadov held the position of Chairman of the Board of the Space Agency "Azercosmos" since 2021.

As a reminder, UNESCO is celebrating World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED) on March 4, 2025 at its headquarters in Paris. The theme for this year is "Unleashing the power of engineers to advance the Sustainable Development Goals" (SDGs).

The event focuses on engineering's transformative role in advancing SDGs and highlights the contributions of youth and women in reshaping the engineering field.
