Official: Azerbaijani quarter in Kahramanmaraş reflection of "one nation, two states" principle
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya highlighted the deep bond between Türkiye and Azerbaijan at the inauguration of Azerbaijani neighbourhood in Türkiye’s Kahramanmaraş, a city devastated by the 2023 earthquakes.
“The Azerbaijani Quarter in Kahramanmaraş once again demonstrates that we are ‘One Nation, Two States,” he said, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He expressed gratitude to the president and people of Azerbaijan for their support in rebuilding the city.
“For Türkiye, Karabakh means the same as Kahramanmaraş does for Azerbaijan, " he stated.
Additionally, Mustafa Levent Sungur, head of Türkiye’s Housing Development Administration (TOKİ), also thanked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for the support, calling the newly built quarter “a testament to the unity and brotherhood between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.”
Kahramanmaraş Province Governor Mükerrem Ünlüer stressed that Azerbaijan’s solidarity would not be forgotten.
“Today, the apartments will be handed over to our citizens. This is a symbol of hope for the future and the strength of our states,” he said.
The project adds to ongoing efforts to rebuild the region after one of Türkiye’s deadliest natural disasters in recent history.
Today, with Azerbaijan’s support, 1,213 apartments, 1,782 jobs, and 1 school are being inaugurated in Kahramanmaraş. The project, named the “Azerbaijani Quarter,” is part of a broader reconstruction effort following the February 6, 2023 earthquakes that killed 53,537 people, injured 107,213, and destroyed nearly 39,000 buildings in southeastern Türkiye.
