Official: Iran completes planning for US talks, venue discussions underway
Iran has finalised preparations for upcoming talks with the United States, with consultations now ongoing to determine the venue, a senior Iranian foreign ministry official has said.
Speaking to the state news agency, Esmail Baghaei confirmed that “planning for the negotiations has been completed, and consultations are currently continuing on the final selection of the venue, which will be announced shortly.”
Baghaei also expressed gratitude to friendly countries assisting with the organisation of the talks.
He highlighted that Türkiye, Oman, and several other regional nations have offered to host the negotiations, an offer of significant importance to Iran.
Earlier, Axios correspondent Barak Ravid said the talks on Iran’s nuclear programme between the United States and Iran are expected to take place in Oman on Friday (6 February).
The source said the Trump administration agreed to Iran’s request to move the talks from Türkiye. Negotiations are ongoing over whether other Arab and Muslim countries will join the discussions.
The White House declined to comment. US envoy Steve Witkoff met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on 3 February as Washington steps up diplomatic efforts to address Iran’s nuclear ambitions and avert wider regional conflict.
