Ombudswoman: Armenia keeps concealing information on fate of Azerbaijanis missing since First Karabakh War PHOTO
Azerbaijan’s Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudswoman), Sabina Aliyeva, has called on Armenia to fulfil its long-overdue obligations under international law regarding Azerbaijani prisoners of war, missing persons, and hostages.
Aliyeva's remarks come in the wake of the identification of the remains of three individuals who had been missing since the First Karabakh War, Caliber.Az reports.
"For more than 30 years, Armenia has not fulfilled its obligations under international law, by refusing to share information regarding prisoners of war, missing persons, and hostages, despite repeated requests from Azerbaijan," Aliyeva said.
The ombudswoman noted that as a result of the identification work on human remains found in mass graves on liberated territories, the identities of about 170 Azerbaijanis have been established to date, and the process is still ongoing.
“Armenia must comply with its obligations under the international treaties it is a party to, refrain from concealing information about the fate of our compatriots, and provide accurate details about the burial sites of those who were killed,” Aliyeva emphasised.
