Pakistan aims to boost trade with Azerbaijan, announces strategic plan
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Ministry of Commerce to devise a comprehensive plan to boost trade turnover with Azerbaijan to $2 billion.
This decision was made following Sharif’s recent visit to Azerbaijan and was announced during a government meeting on March 4, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the importance of implementing the memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and agreements signed during his visit to Baku. He also noted the announcement made by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev regarding his country’s intention to invest $2 billion in Pakistan. In response to this, Sharif has formed a special committee, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, tasked with preparing agreements in key sectors such as energy and infrastructure.
Additionally, Sharif instructed the Ministry of Commerce to develop a detailed plan aimed at increasing trade between the two countries to the targeted $2 billion. The plan is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral economic ties and enhancing trade relations.
The Prime Minister further prioritized the completion of all preparatory work for the upcoming visit of Azerbaijani President Aliyev to Pakistan next month. This visit is seen as a crucial step in deepening bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
Sharif also ordered the appointment of trade representatives in Azerbaijan and other countries with significant trade potential for Pakistan. These measures are expected to foster closer economic collaboration and open new avenues for trade expansion between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
