Pakistan's PM advocates for deeper ties with Azerbaijan amid flight resumption
Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has welcomed the resumption of direct flights between Lahore and Baku, highlighting the significance of the move for boosting tourism and regional cooperation between the two nations.
Sharif expressed his enthusiasm in a statement, calling the restoration of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) services between the two cities an important milestone, Caliber.Az reports like local media.
The flights had been suspended for two years before resuming on April 20.
"We warmly welcome the resumption of direct flights by PIA between Lahore and Baku. This is a pivotal step towards enhancing tourism and strengthening the regional ties between our brotherly countries," Sharif said.
He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further bolstering relations with Azerbaijan across all sectors.
The flights, operating twice weekly on Sundays and Wednesdays, are expected to increase connectivity between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. Additionally, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) offers flights to Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi.
The resumption of the air link is seen as a testament to the growing diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
