Parliamentary: Mexico always close to Azerbaijan
Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijani parliament, Chairman of the Parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee Adil Aliyev met with a Mexican parliamentary delegation headed by Chairman of the Mexico-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group of the Chamber of Deputies of the Mexican Congress Alberto Villa Villegas on a visit to Baku on February 28.
While conveying the greetings and good wishes of Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova to the guests, Aliyev spoke about the relations between the two countries in trade, economic and other spheres, the development of bilateral cooperation, including those between parliaments, noted the importance of the support that both countries render to each other in international parliamentary organisations, Press and PR Department of the Azerbaijani parliament told Azertag.
While speaking about the consequences of the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia during the years of the first Karabakh war, Aliyev reminded about the Mexican Senate’s recognition of the Khojaly genocide, one of the most tragic pages of the ethnic cleansing policy pursued by Armenia during the occupation, and thanked the people of Mexico for their just position.
While informing the guests about the 44-day second Karabakh war, the deputy speaker of the parliament stressed that Azerbaijan had liberated its ancestral lands from occupation, having ensured the implementation of four well-known resolutions of the UN Security Council on its own.
While speaking about the tripartite statement signed on November 10, 2020, Aliyev noted that Armenia does not fully fulfill its obligations envisaged by this document, and spoke about the ongoing environmental terror in the Azerbaijani territory. As a result, Azerbaijani people are currently conducting rally on the Lachin-Khankendi road.
He stressed that Azerbaijan is taking consistent steps to establish sustainable peace and cooperation in the region, but Armenia is showing a destructive position, and noted the importance of the influence of the international community on Armenia in this context.
While expressing gratitude for the warm meeting, Alberto Villa Villegas said that the development of relations between the two countries meets the interests of the peoples of both countries.
Noting that Mexico shares Azerbaijan’s position, he stressed the importance of the international community's support for the steps that Azerbaijan is taking for success in the negotiations on a peace treaty.
Members of the Mexican delegation shared their vision of the prospects for the development of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Mexico and stressed the importance of mutual visits, meetings and exchange of experience to expand ties between the two countries.
Head of the Azerbaijani parliamentary working group for the Azerbaijan-Mexico inter-parliamentary relations Jale Aliyeva, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Mexico Mammad Talibov, Mexican Ambassador to Baku Maria Victoria Romero Caballero and other officials attended the meeting.
