Pashinyan emphasizes new constitution as key to national legitimacy
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has highlighted the importance of adopting a new Constitution as a key step in strengthening the country’s internal legitimacy.
Speaking at a closed meeting with members of Armenia’s political elite, Pashinyan stressed the connection between internal legitimacy and constitutional reform.
As reported by Caliber.Az citing Armenian media, he said: “I consider it a fundamental issue to strengthen our internal legitimacy, which should be expressed through the adoption of a new Constitution.”
Addressing government officials, Pashinyan also discussed the country’s right to defend its internationally recognised territorial integrity, underlining the broader context in which constitutional reform is necessary.
He further noted the growing capabilities in defence, saying: “The opportunities for acquiring weapons and equipment, and for accessing defence technologies, are increasing many times over. I consider strengthening our internal legitimacy a fundamental issue, which should find its expression in the adoption of a new Constitution.”
