Pashinyan warns constitution reference could trigger conflict with Azerbaijan
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has warned that including a reference to the Declaration of Independence in the preamble of a new constitution could lead to renewed conflict with Azerbaijan.
Pashinyan said such a move would signal a continuation of the Karabakh movement, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
He argued that this, in turn, would amount to a resumption of hostilities with Azerbaijan and undermine prospects for peace.
“If we adopt a new Constitution today, and its preamble contains a reference to the Declaration of Independence, it will mean that we are continuing the Karabakh movement,” Pashinyan said.
“If we continue the Karabakh movement, it will mean that we are resuming the conflict with Azerbaijan, and if we resume the conflict with Azerbaijan, it means that peace is impossible,” the prime minister emphasized.
