Peruvian media spotlight Azerbaijan’s 5th Victory Day anniversary
Leading Peruvian media outlets, including La Razón, Prensa21, and FPP, have published articles commemorating the 5th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s Victory Day.
According to information by Azerbaijan’s embassy in Peru, cited by local media, the article's author, Ricardo Sánchez Serra, underscored that November 8, 2020, marked a historic turning point for Azerbaijan. He emphasised that the Victory is celebrated not only as a military achievement but also as a symbol of national and cultural renaissance.
The coverage highlights that, following the 44-day war, Azerbaijan successfully reclaimed its territories, ending years of Armenian occupation.
Reflecting on his post-war visit to Karabakh, Sánchez Serra described the widespread destruction as an instance of cultural genocide, drawing attention to the scale of the devastation.
The articles further note that President Ilham Aliyev has declared the restoration of the liberated territories a national priority. The Azerbaijani government has embarked on multi-billion-dollar reconstruction projects in the region, alongside programs aimed at facilitating the return of former internally displaced persons to their ancestral lands, though landmine contamination remains a significant challenge.
Quoting President Aliyev, the articles highlight his statement: “Karabakh is the territory of Azerbaijan, and the whole world recognises it,” framing the restoration of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty as both a profound political and moral triumph.
