Poland closes biggest refugee centre for Ukrainians
Poland has closed the largest centre for refugees from Ukraine, located in the shopping complex "Ptak Expo" in Nadarzyn near Warsaw.
According to Wyborcza newspaper, the decision to close the centre was made by Tobiasz Bochenski. Bochenski's spokesman Dagmar Zalewski told journalists that there was "no point" in maintaining such a large centre.
About 300 refugees from Ukraine were living in the centre at the time of the closure; the authorities did not warn them of the plans, and as a result, some had to return home.
An employee of the centre told the newspaper that the whereabouts of the remaining refugees were unknown. At the same time, a spokeswoman for the city chancellery, Monika Boit, said that the Warsaw government was surprised by the decision to close the centre as it had not been agreed with it.
