Presidential aide: Azerbaijan, US form working group to deepen strategic partnership VIDEO

31 October 2025 22:18

Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev, answering questions from Baku TV, confirmed the establishment of a working group between the United States and Azerbaijan. Hajiyev recalled that during the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to the United States, a memorandum of understanding was signed, providing for the creation of a working group to prepare proposals on the agenda and substance of the strategic partnership.

“During the visit of the President of Azerbaijan to the United States of America on August 8, a memorandum of understanding was signed between America and Azerbaijan concerning the elevation of relations between the United States and Azerbaijan to the level of a strategic partnership. One of the provisions of this memorandum was the establishment of a working group between the two countries. This working group prepares proposals regarding the agenda and essence of the strategic partnership.

The essence of the statement made by the U.S. Department of State is that a working group related to the U.S.–Azerbaijan strategic partnership has been established within the Department. A corresponding group also exists on the Azerbaijani side. In other words, the Azerbaijani side has also submitted its proposals to the United States of America. As noted in the memorandum itself, the strategic partnership between the United States and Azerbaijan covers cooperation in the fields of energy, transport, artificial intelligence, high technologies, defence, security, and other areas,” Hajiyev stated.

Answering a question about the possible participation of the President of Azerbaijan in the summit of the European Political Community, scheduled to be held in Yerevan in May 2026, Hajiyev said:

“First of all, we have not yet received an official invitation letter regarding this matter. Secondly, given the current situation, we do not consider that participation at the highest level from the Azerbaijani side will take place at this event.”
