Presidential aide slams Armenia for absurd anti-Azerbaijan accusations VIDEO

18 September 2024 10:07

Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev has strongly criticized Armenia and its supporters for what he describes as absurd and baseless accusations against Azerbaijan.

Hajiyev made these remarks during a visit to the Kalbajar district with the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports.

In a social media post, Hajiyev detailed the harrowing impact of Armenia's military occupation on Kalbajar and outlined the improvements made since the region's liberation. “We are on a visit to Kalbajar with the diplomatic corps, departing from Naftalan, which had been on the frontline of Armenia’s military occupation for many years,” he wrote. “After the anti-terror operation, access to Kalbajar, surrounded by mountains, has significantly improved through Aghdara region.”

Hajiyev highlighted several key sites on the itinerary, including the Sarsang Reservoir, which was previously used by Armenia for hydro-terrorism and water deprivation. He also mentioned newly inaugurated residential buildings, industrial and cultural-religious facilities, and other developments opened by President Ilham Aliyev.

The occupation of Kalbajar in 1993, initiated through a military attack from Armenian territory, was a significant event that led to the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 822, according to Hajiyev. “Kalbajar and its civilian population were under blockade for nearly a year before the occupation. The only route out was through the serpentine Omar Pass, which had very limited access,” he noted.

He also recounted the brutal actions taken during the occupation. “Monte Melkonian, a member of the Armenian terrorist organization ASALA, organized massacres against civilians on the Kalbajar tunnel road, similar to the Khojaly genocide,” Hajiyev said. He criticized the destruction and looting of civilian property and cultural monuments by Armenian forces, stating, “During the occupation, and even while withdrawing from Kalbajar, civilian property and cultural monuments were destroyed and looted.”

Hajiyev expressed frustration at the continued accusations against Azerbaijan. “As if that were not enough, Armenia and its supporters in Western institutions, along with paid lobbyists, shamelessly and without the slightest sense of guilt, continue to make baseless and absurd accusations against Azerbaijan,” he asserted. “We live in a hypocritical world! But as I always say, 'The truth and justice may bend, but they will not break.'”
