Press secretary: Over 600 Azerbaijanis seek exit from Iran as tensions rise
In response to ongoing hostilities between Israel and Iran, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed a continued process of evacuating Azerbaijani nationals and foreign citizens from Iran.
The operations are being conducted based on formal appeals received by the Ministry, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran, and the Consulate General in Tabriz, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Aykhan Hajizada stated that efforts are underway to secure the necessary authorisations to enable Azerbaijani citizens, as well as nationals of other countries, to cross Iran’s land borders safely.
"As of today, over 600 Azerbaijani nationals have formally requested to leave Iran. Of these, 180 individuals have already crossed into Azerbaijan," Hajizada said.
"To date, evacuation requests from 77 different countries are being processed in accordance with established procedures, and arrangements are being made to facilitate safe passage for their citizens."
Hajizada also noted that the Foreign Ministers of Russia, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Italy — among others — have conveyed their appreciation to Azerbaijan for its assistance and cooperation during this period.
