Prosecutor General's Office: Over 50 Armenian soldiers die in 2023
The Armenian Prosecutor General's Office has said that 54 servicemen died in 2023 compared to 32 servicemen in 2022.
“Some 19 servicemen were killed by the enemy, three servicemen were murdered, two servicemen died as a result of car accidents, 17 servicemen died as a result of the violation of the rules of weapon handling, five servicemen were incited to suicide, two servicemen committed suicide, one serviceman died as a result of lightning, one serviceman died as a result of electric shock, four servicemen died as a result of illness,” according to the report on the activity of the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office as of 2023, Caliber.Az reports citing the Armenian media.
According to the report, the number of military casualties increased by 22 cases or 69 per cent in 2023 (32 cases in 2022). An important factor determining this indicator was the death of 15 servicemen as a result of a fire in Azat village, as well as an increase in the number of murders committed by the enemy (14 in 2022, 19 in 2023).
During the reporting period, 645 servicemen were wounded. Some 67 servicemen were wounded moderately, 532 servicemen were slightly wounded while 46 were severely wounded in 2023.
Some 343 out of the above-mentioned 645 cases or 53.1 per cent of injuries were caused as a result of crimes, the report said.
