EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Peter Michalko has said that negotiations between the union and Azerbaijan on signing an agreement on aviation are at the final stage.
Michalko made the comments at a celebration honoring the 15th anniversary of the European Union (EU) representative office in Azerbaijan that was held in the International Mugham Centre. A concert was organised on the occasion of the event, according to Report.
In his welcoming speech, EU ambassador to Azerbaijan Peter Michalko stated that the EU office in Azerbaijan is actively developing cooperation with state organisations, various institutions and other agencies of the country.
He also reminded about the recent numerous visits of high-ranking EU officials to Azerbaijan, namely President of the European Council Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
“The EU is Azerbaijan's main trading partner, half of Azerbaijan's export accounts for EU countries. A new memorandum on cooperation in the energy sector has brought our relations to a new level. Close cooperation in the "green energy" has also been established,” he said.
He reminded that the EU is closely cooperating with Azerbaijan in clearing the liberated territories from mines and unexploded ordnance by rendering assistance to the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA).
“Thus, we are committed to the stability and prosperity of the South Caucasus region,” he said.
The ambassador added that so far, the EU has organised over 50 twinning projects in Azerbaijan.
