Restoration completed on Azerbaijani writer’s bas-relief in Tbilisi after vandalism
The interference with the bas-relief of prominent Azerbaijani writer Jalil Mammadguluzadeh in Tbilisi has been fully removed, following a restoration effort led by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Georgia and the Council of Azerbaijani Elders of Georgia.
The vandalism had targeted the memorial plaque, where white scratches appeared over the word “Azerbaijan.” Specialists successfully removed the damage using a special cleaning solution, restoring the inscription to its original state, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
According to officials, it has not been possible to identify who was responsible for defacing the plaque, as there were no security cameras in the area surrounding the Jalil Mammadguluzadeh House-Museum.
The building housing the museum has held cultural heritage monument status since 2007. Under Georgian law, unauthorized inscriptions or graffiti on such protected sites are punishable by fines of up to 2,000 lari ($736).
