Russia reports counter-terror arrests in separate security operations
Russian security services have said they have disrupted the activity of a clandestine cell of an international terrorist organisation in the southern city of Anapa, detaining three suspects.
The regional branch of the Federal Security Service (FSB) in Krasnodar Krai told the state news agency that the group had been operating covertly before being uncovered by officers.
Separately, the FSB said it had recently foiled what it described as a planned attack in Yekaterinburg targeting a senior executive at a defence industry enterprise in the Sverdlovsk region.
According to the agency, a Russian national born in 1985 was preparing the operation, which was carried out under the direction of Ukrainian intelligence services.
The FSB said that during an attempted arrest, the suspect—who had retrieved a homemade explosive device from a cache intended for use against the target’s vehicle—was killed in a remotely triggered detonation. It added that the device was activated by a Ukrainian handler.
The agency also claimed the suspect had rented accommodation using forged documents on instructions from the same foreign intelligence contact.
