Russia to produce new electromagnetic gun to combat drones

Russia’s Chelyabinsk Polet radio plant is expected to produce a new model of an electromagnetic gun, more effective in the fight against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

A built-in radio direction finder, which will allow operators to detect drones operating in the frequency range from 900 to 1200 MHz out of sight, will be the main feature of the new gun. This makes it easier to both search and aim the weapon at the target, according to URA.RU.

The power of the new gun is enough to destroy drones at a distance of up to two kilometres. There is a removable battery, it is possible to quickly recharge the gun. Operating time on one battery is up to two hours. The gun is small in size and weighs 4.4 kilogrammes.

The new model was successfully tested in field conditions in September 2023. By using the gun, the operator was able to destroy DJI Mavic Pro Platinum and Autel Evo Lite+ drones from a distance of 1.4 and 2 kilometres, respectively.
