Russia urges Hungary to prioritize national interests in foreign policy
The Russian side expects Hungary to base its approach to relations with Moscow and the situation surrounding Ukraine on national interests, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
Zakharova made the remarks while commenting on statements by Hungarian officials, Caliber.Az reportys, citing Russian media.
“We take note of statements by representatives of the new Hungarian leadership both regarding the development of relations with our country and the situation in and around Ukraine. We proceed from the assumption that in these matters as well, the Hungarian government will act in accordance with the level of responsibility entrusted to it by the people of the country and in line with its interests,” the diplomat said. “We will proceed from concrete actions and statements.”
Zakharova added that Moscow will assess Hungary’s position based on practical steps rather than rhetoric, emphasizing that Russia will continue to follow developments in bilateral relations closely.
