Russian Foreign Ministry comments on anti-terrorist activities in Garabagh Using its usual narrative

The Russian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement on Azerbaijan's local anti-terrorist activities.

"In connection with the sharp escalation of the armed confrontation in 'Nagorno-Karabakh' (Garabagh region of Azerbaijan - ed.), we urge the conflicting sides to immediately stop the bloodshed, cease hostilities and exclude civilian casualties.

The fate of the 'Nagorno-Karabakh' (hereinafter inverted commas - ed.) settlement was dramatically affected by the recognition by official Yerevan in October 2022 and May 2023 at the summits under the auspices of the European Union of 'Nagorno-Karabakh' as part of the territory of Azerbaijan. This changed the fundamental conditions under which the November 9, 2020 Statement by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia was signed, as well as the position of the Russian Peacekeeping Contingent (RPC).

Since its deployment in the region, the RPC has faithfully fulfilled the tasks of maintaining the ceasefire and ensuring contacts between the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides. Our peacekeepers coordinated efforts to improve the humanitarian situation 'on the ground', as well as facilitated the launch of direct dialogue between Baku and 'Stepanakert' (Khankendi - ed.). Even in these hours, the RPC is providing assistance to the civilian population, including medical aid and evacuation.

The main thing now is to urgently return to the implementation of the set of trilateral agreements at the highest level in 2020-2022, where all steps for the peaceful resolution of the Karabakh problem are prescribed, to stop the armed confrontation and do everything possible to ensure the rights and security of the population of 'Nagorno-Karabakh'".
