Russian man sentenced to 13 years in prison for high treason
A court in Russia’s Kamchatka Krai has sentenced a local resident to 13 years in a high-security penal colony on charges of high treason, according to the regional branch of the Federal Security Service (FSB).
Authorities claim that the man had been cooperating with Ukrainian law enforcement agencies since 2002. Through a messaging application, he allegedly transmitted information about several Russian servicemen as well as photographs of military equipment used in the area of the special military operation.
The FSB also stated that the defendant had a prior criminal record, including convictions in Ukraine for the contract killing of a Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) officer. He was also reportedly involved in armed conflicts in other post-Soviet states.
In addition to the prison sentence, the Kamchatka Regional Court imposed a one-year restriction of freedom and ordered him to pay a fine of 100,000 rubles ($1,328).
