Russian MP: Shusha radiates with joy on its triumphant homecoming
Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia and the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, has expressed heartfelt congratulations to Azerbaijanis worldwide on Victory Day.
Speaking to local media, he highlighted the profound significance of Karabakh's return, balanced with the sombre memory of those who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, Caliber.Az reports.
“I congratulate all Azerbaijanis of the world on Victory Day. Through the joy of Karabakh's homecoming, we feel sorrow for those who left us, giving their lives for the territorial integrity of their Motherland - Azerbaijan. Today we are thinking of them,” Slutsky expressed.
He honoured President Ilham Aliyev’s monumental achievement, emphasizing its historical impact: “Years will pass, and people will celebrate this holiday after us. It is impossible to overestimate what my brother, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Heydarovich Aliyev, did — he brought Karabakh back home, fulfilling the most important promise of his father, founder of modern Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev.”
Slutsky attributed Azerbaijan's victory to its vast socio-economic and military potential. “Azerbaijan won the fight against poverty and became an energy-independent country. Azerbaijan hosts significant events on a global scale, such as the COP, Baku International Humanitarian Forum, and many others. These events attract thousands of people to Azerbaijan,” he noted.
Looking forward, he stressed the need for dedicated efforts to restore Karabakh's economic and social vitality. “Russia will assist in every possible way to ensure that significant infrastructure projects are realized in the Karabakh region,” he affirmed.
Reflecting on his recent visit to Shusha with MP Polad Bulbuloglu, Slutsky described the joy he felt: “Great joy of the city's return home, Azerbaijani flag over every building... But there is still a lot to be done, to be done together by us, brotherly peoples,” he concluded.
