Russian President Vladimir Putin arrives in Azerbaijan for state visit
President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, arrived in the Republic of Azerbaijan on August 18 for a two-day state visit, marking a significant moment in the ongoing strategic partnership between the two nations.
The Russian leader was greeted with a guard of honor at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, where the national flags of Russia and Azerbaijan were prominently displayed. The reception was led by Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov and Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov, accompanied by other high-ranking officials, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The Kremlin’s press service confirmed Putin’s arrival in Baku, underscoring the importance of the visit, which holds the highest state status according to diplomatic protocol.
During the visit, Presidents Putin and Ilham Aliyev are expected to engage in high-level discussions focused on enhancing the strategic partnership and alliance between Russia and Azerbaijan. The talks will also cover pressing international and regional issues, reflecting the two countries’ shared interests in maintaining stability and cooperation in the region.
The visit is anticipated to culminate in the adoption of a joint statement by the two heads of state. In addition, several intergovernmental agreements and other key documents are set to be signed, further solidifying the bilateral relationship.
In the evening, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva hosted a formal dinner at their residence in honor of President Putin, celebrating the enduring ties between Azerbaijan and Russia.
