Russian pundit: West trying to interfere in South Caucasus affairs through Armenia
The geopolitical strategy of the US and Europe in the South Caucasus is focused on making the region's countries entirely dependent on their influence, reflecting their broader goal of achieving global dominance.
The remarks were made by Sergey Markov, a Russian political scientist and Director of the Centre for Political Studies, in a conversation with a local media source, according to Caliber.Az.
Markov noted that there are many examples of colonial practices in the history of Western countries that have led to the deaths of millions of people in different parts of the world.
"For these countries, human casualties on a large scale are not really a significant problem. They view everything in terms of their hegemony. It doesn't matter to them whether it's peace or war. It is important that it is peace or war and under their leadership," the expert said.
The political analyst stressed that one should not trust the aspirations of Western countries to establish peace in the South Caucasus region.
"They (the West) were not against peace, but only under their leadership. Peace under their leadership means that there will be some clauses in this peace agreement that will allow them to manipulate these countries. So, in principle, such a peace under their leadership is not very favourable, because it is not quite honest. Besides, the West is trying to interfere in the affairs of the South Caucasus through Armenia. They impose themselves as a negotiating platform, meaning let's conclude a peace agreement, but under our leadership," Markov noted.
According to him, the best thing for the Armenian people and the country's leadership is to sign peace with Azerbaijan as soon as possible: "The opening of the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia will attract huge investments, enable people to travel and travel freely, as well as those forced to flee from Western Azerbaijan to come to their native places".
