Russian submarine spotted off Finnish coast

Residents of Finland have noticed an alleged Russian submarine off the coast of the city of Hanko.

The submarine was on the surface, according to YLE.

“Commander Anssi Munkki from the National Defence University recognised the ship. This is a Russian Kilo-class submarine produced since the 1980s," the report says.

It is not unusual to find a submarine in the Gulf of Finland. They sail on the surface due to their shallow depth and move along the same fairway with ferries and ships, according to Munkki.

"Submarines often surface so that others moving at sea will definitely notice them and know that they should be careful,” the expert clarified.
