Senior US officials arrive in Baku for high-level peace, bilateral talks
Joshua Huck, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, and Louis Bono, Senior Advisor for Caucasus Negotiations, have arrived in Baku for high-level meetings with Azerbaijani counterparts, and consultations with US Ambassador Mark Libby and his team.
The US Embassy in Baku highlighted that discussions with Azerbaijani officials centred on advancing efforts for a lasting and just peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Additionally, the talks focused on enhancing bilateral relations and fostering cooperation on climate policy, particularly in light of Azerbaijan's successful hosting of COP29.
In a recent development, US Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mark Libby, announced his resignation on December 3, citing ongoing health issues. "It is with a heavy heart that I announce my retirement," Libby said, referencing health concerns first noted in 2023.
He expressed gratitude for the medical care received in Baku. Libby confirmed his retirement will follow a successful 2024. Reflecting on his tenure, he highlighted accomplishments such as boosting US-Azerbaijan educational exchanges and advancing renewable energy cooperation.
"I leave with great optimism for the future of US-Azerbaijan relations," he added, expressing affection for the people and beauty of Azerbaijan.
