Somali president's visit to Azerbaijan marks start of strategic partnership, ambassador says
Fathudin Ali Mohamed, Somalia's non-resident Ambassador to Azerbaijan, based in Ankara, said that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has expressed his deep appreciation for Azerbaijan's hospitality, viewing his recent visit to Baku as the initiation of a strategic partnership between the two countries.
He emphasized that the discussions held during the Somali president's trip are pivotal in advancing and strengthening bilateral relations between Somalia and Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“This historic meeting, marking the first visit of a Somali president to Azerbaijan, laid the foundation for deeper cooperation in several vital sectors. During the visit, key agreements were signed in the fields of education, energy, defence, and governance,” Ambassador Mohamed said.
The ambassador highlighted that the Somali president’s tour of significant facilities in Azerbaijan, including the Sangachal Oil Terminal and Victory Park, served as an important opportunity for Somalia to learn from Azerbaijan’s experience and expertise in these areas. The exchange of knowledge was described as vital for enhancing future collaborations.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud visited Azerbaijan on February 11-14, 2025, with discussions and agreements focused on strengthening the ties between the two nations and promoting cooperation in sectors that are crucial for both countries’ development.
This visit is seen as a significant milestone in the growing diplomatic and economic relations between Somalia and Azerbaijan, with both countries eager to foster a lasting and fruitful partnership.
